I am an Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. I previously worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the School of Public & International Affairs at Princeton University and prior to that as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Political Science at the State University of New York at Geneseo. Before my academic career I spent 8 years in polling, advertising, and consumer market research.
In my scholarly research I am principally interested in how money affects democratic representation. I investigate how the sources of funds affect the content of campaign messages, the behavior of legislators, and the balance of power within party networks. I am also interested the content of political communication, studying the interactions of race and gender with the images and issues used in campaign advertisements. My work has been published in The Journal of Politics, Legislative Studies Quarterly, Research & Politics, Social Science Quarterly, Politics and Religion, The Forum and other outlets.
