I am an Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. I previously worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Princeton School of Public & International Affairs at Princeton University and a Visiting Assistant Professor of Political Science at the State University of New York at Geneseo. Prior to my academic career I spent 8 years in polling, advertising, and market research at The Mellman Group (Washington, DC), Action Based Research (Akron, OH), and Liggett-Stashower Advertising (Cleveland, OH).
In my scholarly research I am principally interested in money, campaigns, and their effects on representation. I investigate how the sources of funds affect the content of campaign messages, the behavior of legislators, and the balance of power within party networks. I am also interested the content of political communication, studying the interactions of race and gender with the images and issues used in campaign advertisements. My work has been published or is forthcoming in The Journal of Politics, Legislative Studies Quarterly, Social Science Quarterly, Politics and Religion, The Forum and other outlets.
