Teaching
Philosophy and Evaluations:
In the classroom I frequently draw on my previous political and private sector experience to make politics concrete and approachable for students. For substantive courses this means the students should see how they can have an influential role in political institutions and processes both professionally and personally. For courses on research methods, this means training students to be sophisticated producers and consumers of data on politics and political behavior in a variety of career settings.
My teaching evaluations have been consistently above department and college wide averages. In open ended comments students most often cite my ability to make challenging topics clear, my availability outside the classroom, and a lecture style that keeps students interested and engaged.
